The Pressure Equipment Directive regulates the manufacturing, design and conformity assessment requirements for Pressure Vessels before their commercialization. With the help of the FEM simulation, we provide verifications for our customers for pressure vessels within the scope of European and US American standards. We offer you extensive experience from over 285 man-years of project processing in technical calculation.
Pressure vessels that fall within the scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive include unfired Pressure vessels and steam Boilers such as Water-Tube Boilers and large-capacity Water-Tube Boilers with an internal gauge pressure of more than 0.5 bar.
Several European and national regulations are available according to which the design can be carried out. In Germany, the regulations DIN EN 13445, DIN EN 12952, DIN EN 12953 and the AD 2000 are frequently used. In non-European countries, on the other hand, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) and British Standard (BS) 5500 are frequently used.
For design purposes, the codes provide corresponding “Design by Formulae” design rules for numerous standard cases, especially for quasi-static loads. In addition, the design can also be carried out according to the method “Design with Analysis Procedure”, which is not bound to standard cases and with which a detailed fatigue strength assessment is possible.
We can perform an evaluation of pressure vessels for you according to the method “Design with Analysis Procedure” based on the Finite Element Method (FEM).
Your advantage through simulation
With the aid of the “design with analysis procedure” method in conjunction with an FEM simulation, all component shapes and load situations can be evaluated, considering manufacturing tolerances and environmental effects.
In addition to the quasi-static external loads in the form of, for example, internal pressures and nozzle loads, time-varying temperature loads with non-uniform temperature distributions can also be considered – based on accompanying thermal calculations – as they occur, for example, in heat exchangers. Especially for components with large wall thicknesses, thermal gradients during start-up and shut-down processes play an important role.
With the help of the “Design with analysis procedure” we can provide you deep insights into the mechanical behavior of your pressure vessels and special shapes can be evaluated mathematically. This gives you certainty of compliance with strength requirements as early as in the design phase.
Documentation of the simulation results
Depending on the customer’s requirements, documentation of the calculation results is provided in the form of a verifiable calculation report in German and English or in the form of a short documentation. In discussion with you, we present the results that are important to you in a clear and understandable way.
