Appliance and plant engineering

Explosion-proof devices according to DIN EN 14460

For the safe commissioning of components in the field of Appliance and Plant engineering, equipment and protective systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, that fall within the scope of directive 2014/34/EU, must comply with general health and safety requirements according to Annex II from Directive 2014/34/EU. If the special technical requirements in DIN EN 14460-2018 are met, the general requirements from 2014/34/EU are fulfilled due to the presumption of conformity by publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

With the help of the FEM-simulation, we perform verifications for explosion-proof devices in the scope of DIN EN 14460 for our customers, which in turn uses the computational methods of DIN EN 13445-3. Both explosion pressure resistant designs (without permanent deformation) and explosion pressure shock resistant designs (with permissible permanent deformation) can be examined.

Your advantage through calculation

With the help of FEM simulation, even complex components from the field of Appliance and Plant engineering can be checked and optimized with regard to strength. In addition to other methods, the direct method according to DIN EN 13445-3 Annex B is an efficient method for the evaluation of the load-bearing capacity using plastic material definition, since it is not required to carry out a time-consuming stress categorization.

Documentation of the calculation results

Depending on the customer’s requirements, documentation of the calculation results is provided in the form of a verifiable calculation report in German and English or in the form of a short documentation. In discussion with you, we present the results that are important to you clear and understandable.

Regulations

  • Directive 2014/34/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 February 2014 on the harmonization of the laws of the Member States concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (revised version)
  • DIN EN 14460-2018: Explosion-proof equipment
  • DIN EN 13445-3: Unfired pressure vessels – Part 3: Construction
