The consumer goods sector includes many products for daily use. ITB has carried out various projects in this domain, not only for appliances such as washing machines, dryers, vacuum cleaners and ovens, but also for pallets and plastic containers.

Our range of services in the field of consumer goods is diverse:

  • Design and optimization of individual components or entire products with regard to their mechanical load carrying capacity and durability
  • Simulation of drop tests, improper use and overload cases
  • Thermal analyses

A wide variety of materials are used in consumer products. Here, we have great expertise in calculations with metallic materials as well as elastomers (plastics and rubber materials).

Since there are varying requirements for different consumer goods, we use different calculation methods for the respective components under investigation:

  • For continuously acting loads, static calculations can be used
  • For impulsive/ impact loads, highly dynamic (also called explicit) calculations can be used
  • For sinusoidal loads (e.g. unbalanced rotations), harmonic calculations can be used
  • For components for which the load history is critical, transient calculations can be used

The evaluation of the calculation results is carried out according to established rules and standards (e.g. FKM guideline, VDI 2230 for bolted joints) or according to customer specifications.

Your advantage through simulation

Problems can be identified and eliminated at an early stage in the development of the product in question. Furthermore, an estimation of the service life is possible without lengthy test series. This not only results in lower development costs, but the development process can also be greatly shortened. In addition, various optimization approaches can be used to develop products that are more durable, longer-lasting and more cost-effective.

Documentation of the calculation results

Depending on the customer’s requirements, the documentation of the calculation results is provided as a verifiable calculation report in German and English or in the form of a presentation.
